The Jimmy McHugh Memorial Concert

About The Jimmy McHugh Memorial Concert

Once again Glasgow plays host to all the musicians, singers, dancers and many friends of the late Jimmy Mc Hugh who converge on his adopted city from all over the world for a great weekend of music in his memory.

In this the 19th Concert for Jimmy it is extremely heart-warming to see that the 'Concert Weekend', as it has come to be known as, continues to show the love, warmth and great music which Jimmy so proudly promoted throughout his life.

Over the years since Jimmy’s passing in 1999 many, many musicians and singers have come to Glasgow to commemorate Jimmy's memory, and it is truly wonderful that we are all together again for another year.

Some of the participating musicians and singers performing at this year's Concert are well known to many audiences throughout the world, many of whom will be experiencing the 'Concert Weekend' for the first time.

We are sure that you will enjoy the tremendous standard of music on show and that you will welcome the musicians with your customary warmth and friendship.

Jimmy came to Glasgow in 1946 and remained here for the rest of his life making Glasgow his home. Jimmy became one of the finest fiddlers of his generation, an accomplished five row accordion player, teacher and composer of renown. Jimmy brought up a whole generation of people not only playing music but sharing his vast knowledge and love for all types of music especially Irish and Scottish traditional.

Many musicians playing today owe a huge gratitude to Jimmy for his teaching and promotion of music.

To all the musicians, friends, concert patrons and family members too numerous to mention, we say a huge and warm thanks for supporting the concert and making it the tremendous success it has become.

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for The Jimmy McHugh Memorial Concert are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
