About An Evening with Colonel Chris Hadfield
An Evening with Colonel Chris Hadfield’ is a unique presentation by this Canadian pioneer reflecting on his 35 year history as a military pilot and astronaut featuring rarely seen videos from his personal collection.
Since his retirement from active duty Chris Hadfield has appeared worldwide on stage and television. In August and September he returns to the BBC to host Astronauts: Do You Have What It Takes? The six part series takes 12 applicants through a process of challenges devised by Chris to test their suitability to become an astronaut. Do they have ‘the right stuff’?
Chris Hadfield undoubtedly does. During his five month stay on the International Space Station, he became something of an extra-planetary media star. He not only shared extraordinary photos, he tweeted The Queen and William Shatner, talked to school children, strummed his guitar and provided demonstration videos about daily life. On his last day on the ISS, he posted a farewell music video online – his version of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity”. It instantly went viral, garnering millions of views quickly. It has now been viewed almost 37 million times.
Through his 21-years as an astronaut, 3 spaceflights and 2600 orbits of Earth, Colonel Hadfield has become a worldwide sensation, harnessing the power of social media to make outer space accessible to millions and infusing a sense of wonder into our collective consciousness not felt since humanity first walked on the Moon.
During his multi-faceted career Hadfield has intercepted Soviet bombers in Canadian airspace, lived on the ocean floor, been NASA’s Director of Operations in Russia, and recorded science and music videos seen by hundreds of millions.
An evening with Chris Hadfield will open your eyes to dream the impossible. Together with unique videos and images from Chris Hadfield’s personal collection audiences in Southampton, Manchester, Glasgow and Belfast will be mesmerised by the beauty of our planet from a perspective given only to the very privileged few.
Chris Hadfield has also published three books, An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth, You are Here and the children’s book, The Darkest Dark.
This is set to be a highly educational and inspirational presentation, the first ‘must see’ event for 2018 from an international icon who is simply ‘out of this world’…..and of course he will be singing Space Oddity!
