About BRUT Europe

Artist Marija Nemčenko, the Lithuanian Cultural Institute and the European Commission in the UK are pleased to invite you to BRUT Europe, a day of talks, screenings and workshops exploring the phenomenon of European Modernist architecture in contemporary cities.

Part of Glasgow International, BRUT Europe will host an exciting array of speakers who will examine the complexities of Modernist architecture across Europe, with examples ranging from St Peter’s Seminary in Cardross and the disappearing high-rises of Glasgow, to block multi-story houses in Kaunas, Lithuania. Confirmed speakers include: Edward Hollis, Chris Leslie, Hussein Mitha, Evelina Simkute and Owen Hatherley

Screen-printing workshops will accompany the lectures, and you will have a chance to print your own personalised tote bag featuring Jamie Temple’s poster design. The event will conclude with a small reception and a screening of Chris Leslie's award winning film Disappearing Glasgow.

Come along for a fascinating glimpse into the legacy of Modernist architecture throughout Europe.

Free and open to all. A light lunch will be provided.

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for BRUT Europe are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
