About Beethoven’s Influence on the Romantic Cello

Carl Henning Fredriksson from Gotland, Sweden, is a classically trained cellist. His studies took place in the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music, in Odense(Denmark), as well as Academy of Music in Malmö(Sweden). He completed his Masters degree in February 2018 having studied under Torleif Thedéen, Robert Nagy (principal cellist in Vienna Philharmonic) and John Ehde. Henning now freelances as a cellist and has played with orchestras including the Joseph Haydn Symphony Orchestra Vienna, Odense Symphonie Orchestra and Malmö Opera Orchestra. He is also a keen chamber music player and has performed concerts both in Sweden and around Europe with musicians such as Ingrid Tobiasson, Anders Kilström and the Gotland Wind Quintet. During 2017 Henning toured Ireland with the Vienna based Belvedare Trio and he will go on to perform with them again in Autumn 2018 with concerts in Gotland and Germany.

Donal McHugh is a pianist currently based in Glasgow. Originally from the West of Ireland he came to Glasgow to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where he graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Music degree in 2014. He studies under Norman Beedie and previously studied under Graeme McNaught. Since graduating Donal has become an active musician in Glasgow performing regularly both as a soloist and chamber musician. He has taken part in seminars on Grieg’s music a number of times in Bergen, Norway (most recently Autumn 2017) and was involved in Enterprise music Scotland’s Creative Exchange in 2015. In 2016 he led the piano course in Summer Music on the Shannon, Ireland, which also involved numerous performances. Aside from classical performing Donal also enjoys composing, improvisation and jazz piano.
