An opportunity to celebrate gardens of the past and future at Go Live! at the Green Programme

Festival 2018 is working with partners including Glasgow City Council Land Environmental Services, RSPB and Springburn Winter Gardens Trust to create a participatory programme of outdoor activity during 2 to 12 August celebrating gardens of the past and future. Do you have green fingers? Do you enjoy reminiscing over the history of Glasgow’s Garden Festival that happened 30 years’ ago, yet still holds a special place in many Glaswegians hearts? Are you part of a gardening or growing group that enjoys taking part in planting or seed-bombing? If any of this applies to you then we’d love to see you at the Go Live! At The Green site. It will include lots of free and fun activity for everyone and will be open during 2 to 12 August between 10am and 7pm each day.

Velocity East End Artists’ Residency Co-commission

The project reference group has helped support young people to appoint the artist in residence and young people will help co design the performances.

Since Spring this year, this project has been supporting the delivery of dance, drama and performance workshops in the East End of Glasgow and the Rutherglen area in order to provide the opportunity to create and deliver programme as part of Festival 2018.

This residency programme is a co-commission between Festival 2018, Clyde Gateway, Creative Scotland and Glasgow Life. The artists’ residency will continue within the East End of Glasgow and the Rutherglen area after the summer, festival programme finishes in August 2018. Glasgow Arts will support this process so that young people in these areas have the chance to stay socially engaged in arts practice and may also be signposted to local delivery partners, further training or routes into involvement in the arts.

Orographic by Oceanallover in association with Feral

12th August / Times TBC / Free
Orographic is a new outdoor performance from visual performance company Oceanallover, fusing otherworldly choreography, live music and sculptural costume inspired by the position and form of landscape, with particular reference to the paintings made by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in France towards the end of his life.
2018 marks the 150 year anniversary of the founding father of the ‘Glasgow’ style. Orographic takes direct inspiration from his abstract lines, shapes and cartography looking at the mountains and hillsides of Scotland and Southern France.
Join Oceanallover for a mesmerising promenade performance that blends surreal choreography, sonic invention and carnival couture design.

The People Unite: Building the Tower

3rd August / 10am - 5pm / Free
The people of Glasgow celebrate and honour the people of Berlin by building a Berlin landmark on a massive scale in cardboard. Volunteers will build the bricks over the course of a week at the Briggait. The bricks will be transferred to Glasgow Green on the 3rd August where 100’s of volunteers will build them into a massive landmark building. On August 4th thousands will gather to celebrate the achievement and see it ceremoniously topple.

Extraordinary Bodies present What Am I Worth?

4th & 5th August / Various Times / Free
In a world where there is not enough to go around, survival hangs in the balance and people are made to prove their worth. Against all odds, they dance, fly and sing on a tipping and spinning stage where the ground becomes the sky and the floor becomes the ceiling. Who will be left when the world stops spinning?

A circus show with original live music and groundbreaking physical moments. Extraordinary Bodies create circus like no-one else. We are a company of extraordinary bodies, with diverse skills and ways of communicating our stories to our audiences.

Extraordinary Bodies’ new show 'What Am I Worth?' has been made with 150 people from across the UK and Ireland. In Glasgow people from the local community will perform in the show.

Every performance will be audio described and sign language interpreted. Touch tours are available 1 hour before each show.

Aerial Edge Artists present Between the Lines, a new professional contemporary circus show. Following the success of our work in progress sharing at Merchant City Festival 2017, we are now pleased to bring you the full production.

Between the Lines combines dance and physical performance with jaw-dropping circus skills. It explores the risk inherent in the relationships within circus performance, in acrobatic and aerial disciplines. Between the Lines, directed by Brazilian director Adilso Machado, features performances from Scottish circus artists Mark Gibson, Adam Wright and Stewart Watts.

Aerial Edge Youth Show

7th & 8th August / Midday - 1pm / Free

inTarsi

7th & 8th August / 5pm - 6.15pm / Free
Breath-taking, poetic, funny and heart-warming, a stunning contemporary circus show, inspiring tenderness for the strange beast that is the human being.

Four acrobats watch each other, gauge, run into, carry, throw each other and sweep us along in their physical and metaphorical dance: a glimpse into the kaleidoscope of human relationships.

The Exploded Circus

10th - 12th August / Various Times / Free
Step into the moment where an explosion has been frozen in time, the remnants of a big top caught mid-air – with everything from circus ring, sequins and fairground horses suspended above ground.
Featuring a breath-taking mix of acrobatics, surprising aerial feats and masterful juggling, The Exploded Circus weaves a story told without words, where six female performers have to come together to seek order in the chaos and create a new normal. With striking imagery and subtle humour, the show explores themes around change, hope and belonging.

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for GO LIVE! at the Green are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
