We’ll be starting this 8-week course off by covering basics such as mixing colours, application and consistency of paint, before moving on to choice of subject, development of ideas and approaches to starting a piece, composition, as well as thinking about scale, texture, surface and finish.
If you are new to oil paint, this is an excellent way to try out a potentially tricky material in a suitable space with advice and support. If you have some experience with this already, it is an opportunity to set aside two hours of the week solely for the enjoyment of painting with the support of an experienced painter to help develop your skills and style.
Schedule: (This schedule is subject to alterations depending on the needs of the group and weather conditions)
Week 1: Introductions, materials, drawing, colour. Painting a relatively simple shape.
Week 2: Elipses and tone
Weeks 3 & 4: Perspective, landscape, texture, compostition
Weeks 5 & 6: Still life; measuring, relationships
Week 7: Self-portraiture; ratios, skin-tones
Week 8: Completion of participants choice
Learning outcomes:
Drawing and observational skills, how to choose subject matter. A greater understanding of the medium of oils, it’s versatility and potential.
While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Oil Painting are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
