About Hannah Frank 110th Birthday Exhibition
Sorry, but this event has been and gone!
Multiple layers of Frank’s identity infuse her work, from being Jewish, Scottish, British and a daughter of immigrants, and this makes her a very interesting and complex character to study. Although part of different communities, Hannah Frank was also deeply rooted in the Glaswegian local art scene. She studied at Glasgow School of Art and at Glasgow University in the 1920s and 30s. An ‘artist’s artist’ in those early days, her black and white drawings became popular throughout her native city later in the last century, with every Glasgow student having a ‘Hannah Frank’ on their walls in the 1960s and 1970s.
Her black and white drawings recall the work of the Mackintosh sisters and Jessie King, and she has been called the last of the Art Nouveau artists. She has been exhibited in the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Academy and Royal Glasgow Institute, and her drawings appeared regularly in the Glasgow University Magazine when she was a student.
On show will be black and white drawings, signed prints, family sketches, and a range of bronze and plaster sculptures. There will be an opportunity to purchase signed prints at reduced prices.
While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Hannah Frank 110th Birthday Exhibition are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
