THE GLASGOW PHOENIX CHOIR is delighted to be performing its annual Christmas concert in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall with our special guests Co-op Funeralcare Band and the High School of Glasgow Junior School Chamber Choir.
In both concert and competition, the Co-op Funeralcare Band has been making music for nearly a century. During that time, it has become the most successful band in Scottish brass band history. The band has won the Scottish Championships 33 times and, during the 1990s, twice brought the national title of Great Britain back to Scotland - the only Scottish band ever to win this prestigious competition.
Pupils of the High School of Glasgow are expected to participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular ensembles and perform regularly, both in and outwith the school environment. Singing is seen as integral to the development of all young musicians, who are encouraged to join one of many choral ensembles that rehearse on a weekly basis during the school session. Recent venues for the annual choral concert have included Paisley Abbey, St Mary’s Cathedral in Glasgow, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Memorial Chapel at the University of Glasgow.
Music in Hospitals & Care (MiHC) brings interactive live music sessions to people who are receiving care or treatment in healthcare settings across the UK. The charity aims to make people feel good, one tune at a time. MiHC is a UK charity, founded in 1948. Live musical sessions are designed to humanise clinical settings, to reach and connect people, to encourage communication and meaningful interactions and to elicit emotions and memories when it matters most.
