Four Acres Charitable Trust (FACT) are happy to announce the Women, War & West End Exhibition at Hillhead Library in Glasgow’s Byres Road until 28th November 2018.
This FREE exhibition forms part of a larger project funded by a National Lottery grant of £6,600. Awarded through the Heritage Lottery Fund’s First World War then and now programme, the project will shine a light the women were instrumental during and after WW1 in Glasgow’s West End. The exhibition if free to visit and will be at Hillhead Library until the end of November before moving to Glasgow City Heritage Trust.
The exhibition brought together a range of researchers and volunteers from various heritage organisations including Arlington Baths and The National Trust for Scotland as well as educational institutions including The University of Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian University and The Glasgow School of Art.
The exhibition draws attention to an under-researched area of women’s role in the West End during and after WW1 in areas such as sport, the work place and within their own homes. It also highlights the work which women undertook in designing commemorative war pieces such as the WW1 triptych frieze designed and executed by Glasgow School of Art alumni Evelyn Beale (1870-1944) which is situated in Webster’s Theatre, and cared for by FACT.
While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Women, War & the West End are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
