Scotland is currently in the grip of an awareness movement around Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). The science is in and the evidence is glaring, that childhood adversity creates harmful levels of stress which impacts on healthy brain development.
Research from ACE studies in the UK, US and elsewhere, have all demonstrated that trauma left untreated, unchecked and unresolved has major long-term consequences and effects on learning, behaviour, health and social outcomes.
It’s for this reason we are partnering with Justice, Health, Education and the Care Sector to bring you a one-day conference from world renowned expert Dr Gabor Mate who will address on the biopsychosocial view of stress, trauma, attachment, illness and addiction. More importantly, Dr Gabor Mate will discuss what ‘actions’ we can take as corporate parents for a healthier, connected, and socially just society.
Joining Dr Gabor Mate on stage will be Darren McGarvey, Orwell Prize winning author of Poverty Safari: Understanding the Anger of Britain’s Underclass. The book is an Amazon and Sunday Times Best-Seller and thanks to strong word of mouth from across the social and political spectrum, continues to garner positive reviews and media coverage for its unique blend of memoir, journalism and polemic on the topic of poverty.
The day will consist of Dr Gabor Mate weaving his insight and expertise through Justice, Health, Education and the Care Sector where delegates will have the opportunity to ask questions to Dr Gabor Mate, Darren McGarvey and an experienced panel.
“Scotland's ambition is to be the inventor and the producer, not just a consumer, of the innovations that will shape the lives of our children and grandchildren.” – Rt Hon Nicola Sturgeon, MSP, First Minister of Scotland.
