Introduction To Self Defence And Martial Arts

About Introduction To Self Defence And Martial Arts

Join us for our 6 week introductory course taking you through the basics of striking pads, kicks and punches, light sparring, throws and takedowns, locks moving to stay safe, defence against strikes and grabs and some groundwork including grappling and wrestling.

You will be taught by black belts in this fun, informal environment. No previous experience is necessary and all ages and fitness levels are welcome. Our club has a range of men and women of all ages from 14 to over 60 so everyone is welcome.

FAQ:

What shall I wear?
Loose fitting clothing or sports wear is fine. Wear trainers or train bare foot. Bring some water with you.

I have injuries / medical problems. Can I still train?
Yes absolutely! You know your own body so go at your own pace and do what you can. We are a very inclusive group!

Am I going to get hit in the face?!
We do strike to the face once you feel confident enough but it is controlled light contact wearing protective equipment like padded gloves. Injuries in our club are rare and we are strict about level of contact.

Do I need to be fit?
No, Train at your own pace and never think you are too old! We have people who joined us in their 50s and people in their 60s who train every week. Many of our black belts started in their 30s. You will be surprised how quickly your fitness improves when you're having fun and training.

What happens after 6 weeks?
If you have enjoyed the course, you might like to go on to a second more advanced course. After this we would encourage you to join our club and train each week with us building on the basics you have learned to pactice our martial art and start "grading" and moving up the belts. If you enjoy it and stick with it, who knows we could have the next black belt!
