After the devastating fire at the Glasgow School of Art last summer, over the past year, the Variety Bar on Sauchihall street has been supporting local artists by offering up our iconic, art nouveau walls as commission free exhibition space.
It may be considered an unusual location, but the Variety bar was the local for many an art school student, and staff, over the past few decades.
This is a wee token of our appreciation, and it keeps our walls interesting and gives our patrons something else to look at asides from their phones. Previous artists have sold works, one even ended up getting interviewed by local tv and has been commissioned to do some work off the back of it.
Our next exhibition is by Glasgow based artist, Scott 'Wingnut' Walker.
'This collection of paintings and drawings is a representation of what I have been doing over past 5 years I have developed my current style relishing increasingly in more and more detailed work. I believe humour and personal connection are very important in the images I produce. I draw upon real experiences, conversations, music, reading, travelling, observations and obscure interpretations to create very colourful and intricate work to illustrate what I see, hear and think. Hopefully the humour and vitality shows through!!!'
Launch night is Thursday 25th April, from 7pm, its free entry, Wingnut himself will be there, and all his works will be for sale.
