You’ll make a brooch plus a pair of earnings using jesmonite, recycled silver and steel... all with baby in tow!
Jesmonite is a versatile water-based, solvent free composite material similar to plaster but robust enough for jewellery but can be customised by adding colour and other materials. We will be making primitive moulds from pushing into clay so bring any small scale objects of interest. There will also be the option of using some pre made moulds that are minimal in design that would suit texture and colour experimentation.
Stefanie specialises in creating ethical jewellery and objects using Fair Trade and recycled metals, ethically sourced gemstones that compliment her interest in gathering rocks found in the UK. She explores ways in which she can incorporate these found rocks within her work, grinding them as pigments and breaking them into shards to create pattern and texture. Stefanie cuts and shapes them by hand to compliment her clean minimal aesthetic.
Stefanie has extensive experience in teaching, having worked as a returning visiting lecturer at Glasgow School of Art. Other posts include tutor for local authorities throughout Scotland, within schools, museums, galleries and art organisations UK wide .
The 2 – 2.5 hour workshop includes all materials plus coffee and cake. There is a restaurant and bar available should you wish to continue the conversation after the workshop. Drygate has a free car park, is wheelchair and pram friendly, and has a lift and changing facilities.
Don't worry if your baby wants to make itself known, or you need to feed or change your little one during the workshop - we fully understand - just make yourself at home! Friends without babies are more than welcome to attend too. Babies may remain in a pram/car seat or on cushions (provided) next to you. A small soft play area will also be available. The event is most suited for pre-walkers however, if you feel your toddler could join then please feel free to bring them along.
