Read A Poem To A Child

About Read A Poem To A Child

Cheeky Besom Productions: ‘Artists With Attitude’ In Partnership with 100,000 Poets for Change 'Read A Poem To A Child' initiative and the MILK Cafe.

This is our first collaboration with Milk Café. We encourage families to join us to share poetry or simply listen and discover poems shared by our readers. Youth and children of ages are welcome. Cheeky Besom Productions are hosting an afternoon of poetry and storytelling, bringing together journeys, cultures and languages in a demonstration and celebration to promote justice, peace, and sustainability. We’re joining the call for serious social, environmental, and political change. We believe that the path towards peace, inner and collective growth is enhanced through an equal sharing of diverse stories in a space of equality, tolerance, and freedom.

Our host for the event is Maria Marchidanu, a Romanian wanderer, asking questions and reflecting upon identity, freedom, equality, and the connection between inner voice and the environment through literature, theatre and music. Based in Glasgow, Maria is a Scottish Literature PhD candidate, researching the artistic and philosophical dialogue between Scotland and Europe in the early twentieth century. In March 2018, Maria was project coordinator and editor of the creative writing anthology You Don’t Look British.

CALLING ALL CREATIVES: We invite you to share poems that have inspired and guided you in the hope that they will further enhance the self-knowledge and mindfulness of our community’s younger members. You can choose to read a poem in any language and share some contextual and thematic words about the text’s literary and cultural background. We hope that, together, we can share an afternoon of multicultural, multilingual dialogue and discover the singular voice of peace, compassion and community. If you would like to be one of the event’s readers, please send an email with your name and a copy of your poem to: maria_marchidanu@yahoo.com. All poem’s must be suitable for young audiences.

Cheeky Besom Productions: ‘Artists with Attitude’: (poet, writer, and critic, Jim Ferguson, artist, Louise Malone, writer/performer, Maria Marchidanu and flâneuse, Ruby McCann) A Glasgow based artist collective. We devise concepts, split all running costs, and collaborate to create: sharing knowledge, making and creating, for the love of literature, art, and music. We champion artistic and cultural experiences that enrich people’s lives.
