Holidays Matter

About Holidays Matter

The Caravan Project is an award-winning charity that has been providing Glasgow’s low -income families with access to short breaks since 1985. Working in partnership with over 40 referral partners across the city, we provide discounted week long holidays and FREE Days out for families needing a break from their challenging circumstances.

Why do holidays matter?
Tourism Scotland state that as many as 250,000 children in Scotland still live in relative poverty, and there are a huge number of families in Scotland who consequently never experience even a short break. A third of children in Glasgow live in poverty, which means that thousands of families in this city miss out on the great benefits a short break can bring.

There are a number of factors which prevent families from accessing a break including cost, ill-health or caring responsibilities. Some people lack the confidence whilst for others, staying within their own community is all they know.

Event Overview
Bringing together a wide range of organisations including youth groups, carer organisations and tourism providers the event seeks to provide organisations with:

Information on how organisations can access FREE Days Out and discounted short breaks for their service users including the Caravan Projects BIG DAY OUT and Respite Holiday Programmes.

An opportunity to discuss and debate how we can improve access to short breaks for low income families in Glasgow.

This interactive event will include:
• Presentations
• Workshops
• Round table discussion
