About Ruth Scott and Rebecca Scott Exhibition

Artists Ruth Scott and Rebecca Scott would be the first to admit sharing a passion for painting but having the same surname is sheer coincidence. Whilst their works bear no similarities in subject matter, the same tenacious, determined streak drives these two artists on. Featuring colour, drama and a fierce independence Violet & Green’s second show in Scotia Gallery will make for a memorable experience.

Ruth Scott
Ruth Scott is based in Glasgow’s Southside, working from home.
With a love of colour and all its qualities, how it translates into its own universal language, to each of us quite differently. An Acrylic painter known for painting atmospheric abstract sky and seascapes, Ruth sometimes incorporating silhouette figures into her work either by desire, or as a commission request. Working predominantly in Golden Acrylics with large chunky brushes, loving their strong pigments, Ruth has been experimenting with Metallics in recent work.
Painting, for Ruth, has been an escape and a sense of freedom, so for the results of that process to be something others enjoy, and share in, is immense.

Rebecca Scott
Rebecca Scott is a visual artist working in mixed media who is based in North Ayrshire. Most drawn to creating experimental depictions of people, she incorporates printmaking techniques, acrylics, inks, blind drawing and dry media in her work. She is keen to explore new techniques and recently began practicing painting on glass. Inspired by interaction, expression, love and solitude, she instinctively chooses source images that stir something emotionally within her. Keen to continue learning and progressing as an artist, she seeks opportunities to try new things and to collaborate with other artists. Passionate about sharing skills and being creative with other people, she works as a teacher and community artist, and has established an art club, which she loves. Art brings people together, helps them to relax and express themselves and boosts their confidence and sense of self.

Violet & Green are a Glasgow based duo. Both Alumni of Glasgow School of Art and practising artists in their own right, they have worked together on various satellite projects over the past 6 years. They have now joined forces to work closely together organising and presenting exhibitions.. Using their insight as artists, they are a strong force to be reckoned with, offering a unique and professional platform for artists of all disciplines.

Working within Scotia Gallery, at 7-9 Derby Street, in the popular Finnieston area of Glasgow, Violet & Green, is committed to presenting an exciting addition to the varied gallery, exhibition spaces and retail options within Glasgow’s art community
