Entry into the club is by audition.
The Lyric Club, formerly known as Glasgow College of Music Opera Society, was founded by Allan McBeth, a distinguished Glasgow Musician. In the early years the club concentrated on Opera Bouffe of which Mr McBeth was a devotee. In the 1930s it was decided to produce something different. Fashions in musicals change and over the years which have followed, the club has sought to keep pace with the times, staging a wide variety of shows – some for the first time in Glasgow!
Although our first objective is and always will be to entertain the public, the function of the Lyric Club does not stop there. Through our efforts a huge number of worthy charities have benefited greatly.
The Lyric season begins in the Autumn and ends, usually, with the annual production. Rehearsal night is Monday with another time added as each show week draws near – usually Sundays.
Since its inception, the Lyric Club has always been fortunate in having enthusiastic and gifted people to administer its affairs and stage its productions. The present era is no exception.
