The King’s & Theatre Royal are firmly on the map as Glasgow’s top entertainment destinations and once again the brand new season is bursting at the seams with captivating comedies, delectable dramas, magical musicals and family fun.

Like any well packed suitcase we’ve included the wardrobe staples, classics such as Cats and Chicago, splashed out on the latest season’s must-haves, brand new productions of Sister Act and Sunny Afternoon, carefully folded a going-out outfit, celebration of soul The Commitments, we haven’t forgotten a good book, now see The Shawshank Redemption on stage, also remembered a light read, new comedy The Broons, and even stuffed in something for the kids, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the King’s legendary panto Cinderella.

King’s Theatre Glasgow

Let the memory live again with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats (Tue 13 – Sat 17 Sep) direct from its sell-out seasons at the London Palladium. Adapted from TS Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, this fusion of music, dance and verse is set on the night that cats from all walks of life come together for the notorious Jellicle Ball where Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, will decide which cat has outlived their nine lives.

Prepare to be razzle-dazzled by Chicago (Mon 19 – Sat 24 Sep) starring West End and EastEnders actor John Partridge as Billy Flynn. Will the smooth talking lawyer manage to get scorned nightclub singer Roxie Hart and her cell block rival, double-murderess Velma Kelly, off the hook?

Singing sensation Alexandra Burke is making a habit of appearing at the King’s, she’s back with smash hit musical comedy Sister Act (Tue 4 – Sat 8 Oct) directed and choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood. Deloris Van Cartier, is a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when witness protection places her in a convent disguised as a nun, but she can’t shake her love of Motown music.

The multi-award winning Sunny Afternoon (Tue 11 – Sat 15 Oct) tells the captivating tale of how one of Britain’s greatest bands, The Kinks, rose to stardom. Step into the swinging 60s and discover how The Kinks found their definitive sound featuring the iconic hits You Really Got Me, Waterloo Sunset, Dedicated Follower of Fashion, All Day and All of the Night, Lola and of course Sunny Afternoon.

Fasten your seatbelts when Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Wed 19 – Sat 29 Oct) flies into the King’s with a truly scrumptious cast including Michelle Collins, Phill Jupitus and Jason Manford.

And finally the King’s Theatre is thrilled to announce Gregor Fisher will be reuniting with his Rab C. Nesbitt co-star Tony Roper in the godmother of all pantomimes, Cinderella (Fri 2 Dec – Sun 8 Jan). Also returning to the stage due to popular demand is Capital FM presenter Des Clarke marking his fifth consecutive year in the King’s legendary panto.

Theatre Royal

If it’s a first-class ticket to drama you’re after then the Theatre Royal is the place to be with the intriguing Rehearsal for Murder (Mon 22 – Sat 27 Aug), the political thriller Democracy (Tue 6 – Sat 10 Sep) and the classic murder mystery Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap (Mon 12 – Sat 17 Sep).

Hope you’ve packed your dancing shoes - Strictly Come Dancing 2012 winner and Olympian Louis Smith, alongside professional dancer Robin Windsor, urge audiences to Keep Dancing (Tue 25 – Sat 29 Oct) in a brand new show celebrating the world of Ballroom and Latin dance.

The Glebe Street gang are back! Scotland’s most famous fictional family The Broons (Mon 7 – Sat 12 Nov) are coming to the stage for the very first time to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the classic comic strip.

From one but ‘n’ ben to another, the charming, kooky and hilarious 1950s musical sci-fi spoof Little Shop of Horrors (Mon 14 – Sat 19 Nov) returns starring X Factor’s Rhydian. Will he be able to control Audrey Two, the carnivorous plant with a jealous streak?

The thrilling stage production of The Shawshank Redemption (Mon 21 – Sat 26 Nov) based on Stephen King’s short novel and one of the best movies of all time, nominated for seven Academy Awards, comes to the Theatre Royal. The play examines desperation, injustice, friendship and hope behind the claustrophobic bars of a maximum security facility.

Another award-winning film adaptation takes to the stage this Christmas. Direct from London’s West End The Commitments (Mon 12 – Fri 30 Dec) follows Jimmy Rabbitte, a young working class music fan, as he shapes an unlikely bunch of amateur musicians and friends into an amazing live act, the finest soul band Dublin has ever produced. The Commitments is a feel good celebration of soul with over 20 classics such as River Deep, Mountain High, Mustang Sally, I Heard It Through The Grapevine and Knock On Wood.

Now your suitcase is packed, all that’s left to do is to buy the ticket! For full details of all events, follow the links below:
