The Glasgow Live International Comedy Festival (GLICF) returns from 9 - 26 March 2017, presenting the pick of Scotland’s home grown talent, including Fred MacAulay, Des Clarke, Janey Godley, Fern Brady, Gary Little, Craig Hill, Mark Nelson and Richard Gadd; alongside celebrated comedians from further afield, with Jimmy Carr, Al Murray, Stewart Lee, Russell Howard, Henning Wehn, Bridget Christie, Reg D Hunter, Sue Perkins and David O’Doherty all set to perform.
The festival is a long-established highlight of the city’s cultural calendar, and this year organisers are delighted to announce a partnership with new title sponsors Glasgow Live. GlasgowLive.co.uk launched this year, covering all the news and everything that is great about our city - with a touch of the local patter - and their columnists including Burnistoun’s Robert Florence, Kevin McKenna and Cat Cubie.
Gregor Kyle, Editor of Glasgow Live said: "Glasgow Live champions the very best things about Glasgow and I think everyone could agree that our unique sense of humour is high on that list. That's why we are so please to be supporting the Glasgow Live International Comedy Festival - it brings some of the funniest people in the world to our city, and is one of the reasons it is such a great place to live and visit."
Joe Aitken, Head of Major Events at Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “Glaswegians are renowned for their hospitality and good humour so it’s no surprise that we’re home to one of the best comedy festivals in the world, which perfectly encapsulates our city’s personality. Over the years we’ve welcomed some of the biggest – and funniest – comedians to Glasgow and they come back time and again because we’re a city that knows how to put on a show. With the announcement of Glasgow Live’s new headline sponsorship, I’m sure the festival will continue to go from strength-to-strength, providing a laughter-packed programme of great shows and events, in some terrific venues, for visitors and locals alike.”
Paul Bush OBE, Director of Events at VisitScotland, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Glasgow International Comedy Festival again this year.”
“Over the past fifteen years the Festival has gone from strength-to-strength; and it’s great to see Glasgow Live secured as a title sponsor, which will ensure the event’s sustainability. The city always delivers a fantastic event, bringing together the best home-grown talent with top comedians from around the world, and providing visitors to Glasgow with a warm welcome.”
The Glasgow Live International Comedy Festival offers everything from stand up and sketches to drama, film and kids shows. There are shows taking place every day throughout the festival, across over 40 venues throughout the city, with something to suit every taste and pocket.
The full programme will be launched at The Stand Comedy Club in Glasgow on Thursday 12 January 2017.
The Glasgow International Comedy Festival is supported by Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and EventScotland and in 2015 won Best Large Festival at the Scottish Event Awards.
