Capital FM has today been announced as Official Radio Partner of GO LIVE! at The Green – a live site which will stage 11 days of free sporting and cultural activity during the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.
Tens of thousands people are expected to descend on Glasgow Green for an exhilarating live experience, packed with sport and fitness activities, innovative arts programming and entertainment from Festival 2018 and the best in Scottish food and drink.
Popular Capital FM presenters, including Des Clarke, Amy Irons, Steven Mill and Garry Spence, will entertain the crowds at GO LIVE! at The Green throughout the Championships, adding to the vibrant, carnival atmosphere.
As well as hosting three days of sporting competition for European Road Cycling Championships, the park will be a celebration of Year of Young People, with a line-up of activity created by young people themselves that showcases their incredible talents to visitors.
The Green will be bursting with ‘have-a-go’ sporting and healthy living activities alongside challenges with Glasgow Club, encouraging the thousands of people who visit between 2 and 12 August to be inspired by sport and culture and lead healthier and more active lives.
Visitors will also have a chance to enjoy the sporting action on big screens, visit the Kitchen Garden to get a true flavour of Scottish cuisine and witness spectacular cycling tricks from The Clan, Scotland’s Cycle Stunt Team.
Glasgow Science Centre will bring its popular hands-on science experiments from the BodyWorks exhibition to the park, exploring the science underpinning human health and wellbeing, while an impressive big top marquee will house spectacular circus performances to celebrate 250 years of circus in the UK.
An impressive, monumental cardboard image of an iconic building in Berlin, created by French artist Olivier Grossetete and members of the public, will also be on display as a gift between the two co-host cities.
Championships Director Colin Hartley said: “We want everyone who visits GO LIVE! at The Green to be inspired by the many activities on offer and get wrapped up in the excitement, cultural brilliance and sporting prowess on display at the Championships.
“GO LIVE! at The Green will be an opportunity for people from across Scotland to come together to try something new, inspiring those of all abilities and tastes to get involved celebrating this world-first event, the atmosphere is sure to be fantastic.”
Capital presenter Des Clarke said: “As a Glasgow boy, I am so proud to see such a brilliant event come to the city. Nobody puts on a party like Glasgow. I can’t wait to be involved and to welcome some of the continent’s top athletes to my home town.”
Capital presenter Garry Spence added: “Everyone at Capital Scotland is really excited about Glasgow 2018, the city will be absolutely buzzing. There is no doubt GO Live! at The Green will be the epicentre, so I can’t wait to be in about the action with Glaswegians and visitors alike. It’s going to be a huge month for the city!”
GO LIVE! at The Green will be open from 1000 hours until 1900 hours each day from 2 to 12 August, with extended opening hours on 8 and 12 August
Glasgow Green will act as the start and end point for the Cycling Road Race events on Sunday 5 August (Women’s Road Race) and Sunday 12 August (Men’s Road Race) and the finish point for the Cycling Time Trial on Wednesday 8 August.
