Laura Porter from Rutherglen started her beauty business in 2009 at the age of 25, however in the past 18 months, the inspiring entrepreneur has built her business tenfold, serving some of Scotland’s biggest influencers including Jamie Genevieve, and is quickly building her own large social media following.
Genevieve, who regularly features Laura’s work in her Vlogs, says: “Laura has been my saviour! One of my favourite things to do after working overseas, is visit Laura to shake off the aches, pains and jet lag. I’m obsessed with the DermaPen and LipofirmPRO treatments, as well as the LED facials”
Laura is one of only a handful of suppliers in Scotland to offer services such as LipofirmPRO treatments, which offers non-invasive body treatments favoured by celebs including ex-Love Island star Laura Anderson, and model Demi Rose.
However, the budding business woman is not stopping there. In Jan 2019, she released her first free magazine, offering beauty hints and tips to subscribers. With over 1000 subscribers in the first quarter, Laura has gone large with her summer edition.
Following the initial thought process for the summer newsletter - which features a behind the scenes photoshoot of Ex-Celtic footballer Shaun Maloney’s fiancée’ – Stephanie White’s wedding preparations - Laura created a competition to allow a bride (or groom), the chance to win a dream £15k wedding in May 2020.
She reached out to a number of event suppliers, who were happy to also provide their services to the lucky winner. From a venue, to cake, music and event décor – not forgetting beauty and hair treatments, she has it covered. Not only that, all profits from each £10 entry will be given to a number of Children’s charities as well as the Kilbryde Hospice.
Laura said: “Summer is wedding season, however this time can be really expensive and stressful, not just for the bride and groom, but for all of the attendees. My newsletter was created with these people in mind to get them ready for the summer ahead. I also wanted to do something really exciting, which would create a bit of a buzz as well as give something back to the community. I’ve always been heavily involved in charity work and offer a number of free treatments to cancer patients, so when somebody suggested that I should charge an entry fee for the competition, I thought it would be a great way to generate some money for these organisations.”
Janice Allan, Complementary Therapies Co-ordinator for Kilbryde Hospice, said: “Laura is a driven young business woman and a supporter of many charitable organisations, including ourselves here at Kilbryde Hospice. Without supporters like Laura, many charities would not have the funds they require to provide such important services to our local communities. For the lucky winner of this competition, Kilbryde wishes you a long and happy life of wedded bliss”.
THE COMPETITION COSTS £10 TO ENTER AND CLOSES AT THE END OF MAY. T’S & C’S APPLY.
