About How to Use Your Digital Camera

This is an introductory photographic course for those wanting to learn more about their Digital Camera. The course will combine photographic theory and practice enabling beginners in photography to be guided in understanding their camera and the fundamentals of photography. Furthermore, students will learn how to use their cameras as a medium for creative expression.

Learning Outcomes –
Understanding your DSLR Camera
Using Manual Mode
Using photography as a creative tool
Theory and History of Photography
Build a portfolio of work
Have fun with this new tool for creative purpose

Schedule of Lesson –
Session 1 Introduction to course, layout of camera, history of photography, using manual mode
Session 2 Exposure: How to manipulate and use aperture and metering modes
Session 3 Image workshop, compositions, how to use shutter speed and aperture for creative purpose
Session 4 What are lenses and their relationship with aperture
Session 5 Work with onboard flash of DSLR
Session 6 Outing

Structure –
6 weekly classes
3 hours each

What You’ll Need –
DSLR camera with 1 or more lenses. The standard zoom(s) are great but if you have more lenses please bring along.
UV filters to protect your lenses (not necessary but suggested)
Spare battery for your camera, original or generic (not necessary but suggested)
A tripod is essential and it’s a good idea to get one that is in line with the size and weight of your camera & lenses (If not everyone has one we can organise to hire/borrow)
Two or more memory cards 16GB or larger
Basic stationary i.e. notepad/book, pens, highlighter etc.
Laptop/computer to review and prep weekly homework
