Brain-Natter - a Short Story Collection Book Launch with Adam McNelis

Our featured writer for October is novelist and short story writer, Adam McNelis. If you are a writer, and looking for tips, McNelis is offering up a sound grasp of the essential building blocks: character, point of view, dialogue, setting, plot, structure, and theme. McNelis invites writers to consider what makes a good short story. He will discuss and share his creative process, motivations, a poem that inspires him to keep writing whenever self-doubt kicks in, and the craft of writing short stories. Throughout, McNelis will be reading examples of his latest publications, Brain-Natter- a Short Story Collection (Amazon KDP September 2019). Books will be available for sale on the night.

Adam McNelis: A graduate from the University of Paisley with a degree in Media, Theory, with Production. He resides in Renfrew while spending much of his working day in and around Glasgow’s East End. His semi-autobiographical debut novel, Halo by the Oak Tree was released (Amazon KDP, 2018), with September 2019 seeing the release of his follow-up book, Brain-Natter - a Short Story Collection. His work tends to be self-deprecating, humorous, contemplative, and looking to put a twist on the more mundane aspects of life. You can follow McNelis on Twitter: @MrAdamMcNelis or visit his website: www.AdamMcNelis.com’

CALLING ALL CREATIVES: Following McNelis’s presentation, we’re hosting an Open Mic – Speakeasy Style! Our theme for the night is the ‘Feast of Samhain’ literally translated means Summer’s End. The Druids believed that on this night, all of those who died in the past year would rise up and search for the passageway to the netherworld. On this night the passageway or ‘veil’ between both worlds was at its thinnest. Lord Samhain would roam the earth in search of those souls to capture them and take them to his world of darkness. This is open to interpretation. Slots are 5-7 minutes to be allocated on a first come first served basis. To secure a slot contact, Ruby McCann: mccannruby@gmail.com. Our host for the evening is poet, writer, and critic, Jim Ferguson.

Cheeky Besom Productions: ‘Artists with Attitude’: (poet, writer, and critic, Jim Ferguson, artist, Louise Malone, writer/performer, Maria Marchidanu and writer/flâneuse, Ruby McCann) A Glasgow based artist collective. We devise concepts, split all running costs, and collaborate to create: sharing knowledge, making and creating, for the love of literature, art, and music.
