About EAT THE RICH!: The Shield Around the K (2000)

Listed Under Film Events

Glasgow Zine Library’s strand of punk documentaries ‘EAT THE RICH!’ is not only an homage to those who paved the way in DIY culture, but also functions as a crash course for those who want to learn more about the rich history of this culture!

This month we’ll be screening The Shield Around the K (2000)! This documentary, produced and directed by Heather Rose Dominic, is about the independent record label, K Records. The film profiles the birth and growth of punk rock DIY labels based in Olympia, Washington – a few of which began as zines before they became music labels.

DIY is heavily linked with and influenced by film, with a long history of non-mainstream, counter-cultural and independent filmmaking emerging out of DIY culture, such as grassroots political film and documentaries tied to music and cultural activism. Make sure to stay behind after the screening to explore our collection of film and music related zines.

FILM RUNTIME: 85 mins

TICKETS: £5 full/£3 concessions. Book at glasgowzinelibrary.com
