Developing Your Studio Practice

The Developing Your Studio Practice class at Studio Pavilion will allow each participating artist or designer to develop strategies in advancing their studio practice.

Developing Your Studio Practice

About Developing Your Studio Practice

Work will be developed individually. There will be emphasis in building a community invested in sharing and discussing ideas.

Course objectives: making, group critiques, visual research, developing conceptual inquiry, understanding material interests and appropriateness to practice, presentation and installation ideas, influences, addressing goals and ambitions, professional practice, current thinking in art and design, and what makes a practice relevant and contemporary.

This class will conclude with an exhibition on the last day of the class.

Your Tutor:
Fraser Taylor co-founded The Cloth, a creative studio focused on contemporary textile design and production. Since 1983 he has developed an interdisciplinary art practice and exhibited internationally, and his curatorial projects have included innovative collaborations with visual artists, designers, and contemporary dance. As an educator he has lectured at leading fine art and design institutions, and from 2001 until 2017 was a Visiting Artist and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Fiber and Material Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2017 he was awarded an Honorary Professorship from Glasgow School of Art, University of Glasgow and co-founded The Textile Collective. Fraser studied textile design at Glasgow School of Art and the Royal College of Art.
