Animate the Collection: The Breadwinner (2017)

About Animate the Collection: The Breadwinner (2017)

Glasgow Zine Library holds a large collection of illustration and comic-based zines, with several of their makers progressing to become graphic novelists, comic book writers and animators. Join us for our strand of animation film screenings and events, ‘Animate the Collection’, to do just that!

This week, we’ll be screening The Breadwinner (2017), which is an animated feature about a headstrong young girl in Afghanistan who disguises herself as a boy in order to provide for her family.

DIY is heavily linked with and influenced by film, with a long history of non-mainstream, counter-cultural and independent filmmaking emerging out of DIY culture, such as grassroots political film and documentaries tied to music and cultural activism. Make sure to stay behind after the screening to explore our collection of film, comic and illustration related zines.

Tickets are £5/£3 and can be booked on glasgowzinelibrary.com.

Glasgow Zine Library is an archive and library based in the Southside of Glasgow. It acts as a growing archive of self-published works, with an inviting and accessible area of reading in the space, as well as running a year-long programme of events to celebrate the ethos of Do It Yourself (DIY) culture.

This film strand is supported by Film Hub Scotland, part of the BFI’s Film Audience Network, and funded by Screen Scotland and Lottery funding from the BFI.

ACCESS: The Library can accommodate wheelchair users, but unfortunately, we do not have a wheelchair accessible bathroom yet - we are currently applying for funding to make our bathroom accessible to everyone, and we will be making the needed adjustments as soon as we have the funds to do so. If you have any questions or requests about access, please contact glasgowzinelibrary@gmail.com

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Animate the Collection: The Breadwinner (2017) are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment. All information (whether in text or photographs) is given in good faith but should not be relied upon as being a statement of representation or fact.
