Tuesday 17th March: Mungo Murray: Death and Expulsion: Mungo Murray's Darien
Join Dr Julie Orr as she places Lord Mungo Murray’s portrait in the context of the Scottish attempt to form a colony in Darien, in modern day Panama, which led to Murray’s demise.
Tuesday 21st April: The Fashion for Tartan
Discover the details of Lord Mungo Murray’s clothing, including his tartan, and how they help to identify him as a Highland Chieftain.
Tuesday 16th June: Scotching Myths: Mungo Murray and Scottish Identity

An afternoon of short talks in the Scottish Identity in Art gallery, looking at the history of John Michael Wright’s portrait of Lord Mungo Murray and what it means to be Scottish today.

Join Curator of Scottish History Dr Tony Lewis as he sets John Michael Wright’s portrait of Lord Mungo Murray in the context of the history of the Murray family and their political status in Scotland in the 1600s.
