What can we learn from the heightened awareness of (and restrictions surrounding) touch which characterised our experience of the Covid19 pandemic? Might the experiences of d/Deafblind communities, and those who rely on their sense of touch to navigate the world, aid our shared understanding of this new normal? How can different experiences of touch reshape audio-visual art practices and cultivate communication tools and strategies?
This interactive workshop - co-developed and presented alongside the In Touch exhibition with the charity Deafblind Scotland - provides a meaningful insight into the experiences of the deafblind community. Alongside artists and scholars they will reflect on the exhibition’s themes, and challenge our core notions of how we sense – and make sense of - the world.
