Mungo: Legends of a Scottish Saint by Stephen Callaghan

About Mungo: Legends of a Scottish Saint by Stephen Callaghan

Most people are vaguely familiar with the bird, the bell, the fish and the tree, that make up Glasgow’s Coat of Arms but few know the full story of the man who made these famous... the man who fell in love with the dear green place and named it Glasgow.

The play will be shown as part of a Zoom event and will be followed by a Q&A for which you can send in questions during the broadcast.

Stephen Callaghan is a prolific playwright and theatre-maker, based in Glasgow, Scotland. He has written extensively on faith-related subjects, from the lives of Saints to Biblical material in new and challenging ways. Often infused with the humour and style of his native city, his plays have been performed widely in local venues and schools around Scotland and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. These include a commission from the Vatican for an International Conference taking place in Glasgow in 2020 and the acclaimed “The Margaret Sinclair Story”, commissioned by the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh, which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2016. Together with his wife, Rachel, he directs the work of Callaghan Theatre Productions. He is a member of the Scottish Society of Playwrights, an Honours graduate of the University of Glasgow Theatre, Film & TV Studies Department and holds Licentiate and Associate diplomas in Speech and Drama from the London College of Music and Media.
