Time Being exhibitions are available to view, 24 hours a day, from street-side through the gallery windows. While we can't allow visitors into our gallery spaces, the Time Being programme allows us to showcase some of our tenants' incredible work.
Iona studied Fine Art Printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art (1991-1995). She went on to study at SNDO School for New Dance Development, Amsterdam (1996-1998) and later Cirkuspiloterna (renamed DOCH), Stockholm (2003-2005). She has been performing her solo works and choreographies internationally for 25 years and lived most of that time based abroad. Iona is a former dancer with Belgian dance companies Wim Vandekeybus - Ultima Vez and Alain Platel- Les Ballets C de la B. Her present company 'Knights of the Invisible' was established in 2009 with Glasgow musician Joseph Quimby. The next work 'Waiting for the Sea Eagle' will premiere Spring 2021 in France.
Throughout her life she has been continually drawing and painting, specialising in large scale detailed pencil works. Her visual art pieces are surreal, figurative worlds of visual dreaming and reinventing layers of ideas through hyper realism. Iona searches for a clarity of vision through enlightened thinking, stimulated by dance states and physical movement. Her subject matter looks from the inside out, playing with the interconnected rhythm of line and shape.
The body and its capacity for change, its limits, mental focus and physical energy have always been a working fascination. To challenge, or indeed, to become the idea in performance or visual art. The theatre of life and its detail beyond the edges into new ground. To see anew.
Iona is based in Wasps The Briggait Studios.
