About Chris Stout & Catriona McKay, Georgia Cecile, Fergus McCreadie & Sona Jobarteh

Winners of the Best Duo title at 2018’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, fiddler Chris Stout and harpist Catriona McKay – renowned for their dazzling experimentation and cross-genre collaborations – return to Celtic Connections after their intimate acoustic performance with Somhairle MacDonald in 2020. The pair – described by The Glasgow Herald as “operating at a rarefied level of expertise” – merge together background, traditions and fresh vision to make their own space. This is music celebrating the freedom shared by two diverse and dynamic musicians – emotional music, music of stark beauty, using vulnerable tactile sounds.

Cited as a flagship vocalist for the new wave of Scottish jazz, fans and critics have quickly embraced Georgia Cécile's mix of jazz, pop and soul. Tipped as 'One To Watch' by BBC Introducing, winner of 'Best Vocalist', 2019 Scottish Jazz Awards, and 'Vocalist of the Year' nominee, 2020 Jazz FM Awards, Cécile's stock is rising on the strength of her live performances and songwriting partnership with her pianist Euan Stevenson.

Sona Jobarteh is a unique and pioneering musical icon of her time whose renown has been rapidly flourishing globally. Born into a Griot family from the Gambia, a tradition that dates back 7 centuries, she is the first female within this tradition to become a professional virtuoso on the Kora. Her music is uniquely poised between the preservation of her rich cultural heritage and an accessible, modern style that relates to the current era and to audiences from all over the world. At the heart of her success as an artist is her dedication to humanitarian activism in the areas of social development and educational reform on the continent of Africa.

Fergus McCreadie is a phenomenal young pianist and his trio with David Bowden (bass) and Stephen Henderson (drums) is one of the most exciting young groups on the European jazz scene. The trio’s music is dynamic and beautifully crafted, reflecting the Scottish landscape and musical traditions while honouring the American and European jazz legacies. The threesome brought audiences to their feet across Northern Europe during their Spring ’19 tour and recently appeared at the renowned Ronnie Scott’s International Piano Trio Festival.

*This performance will be available to watch for one week after the live date to accommodate different time zones.
