The Secret Sisters are Laura and Lydia Rogers – two sisters who hail from the legendary musical hamlet of Muscle Shoals, Alabama. In 2010, they had never performed in front of an audience or stepped inside a recording studio, but since being discovered by the legendary T-Bone Burnett they have performed with artists such as Elton John, Jack White and Elvis Costello. In their latest album Saturn Return (2020) - the duo’s second release for New West Records - the sisters grapple with love and loss. Like its predecessor, 2017’s Grammy-nominated You Don’t Own Me Anymore, the record was produced by Brandi Carlile and Phil and Tim Hanseroth.
Founded in 2017, Glasgow’s Kinnaris Quintet - on three fiddles, mandolin and guitar – has swiftly taken the trad scene by storm, clocking up a universally acclaimed debut album, Free One, in 2018 (‘One of the best debut albums of 2018’ said Folk Radio UK) and winning the coveted 2019 Belhaven Bursary for Innovation in Music. Their sound distils influences of traditional Scottish and Irish folk with Bluegrass, Classical, Scandinavian and Appalachian, delivered in a ‘euphoric’ sound with unique power, energy and drive, and presented in new, original compositions.
An Tobar is a creative hub on the beautiful Isle of Mull and for the first time they have commissioned a special set for this year’s festival featuring Mairearad Green, Sorren Maclean & Hannah Fisher and Roddy Woomble of Idlewild fame.
