About Fara, Rachel Walker, Assynt, Chloë Bryce & Amy Papiransky

The new decade marked an exciting new chapter for Scotland’s fabulous fiddle-led Fara, as founding Orkney frontwomen Jeana Leslie, Catriona Price and Kristan Harvey welcome young Highland pianist Rory Matheson to the line-up. Having bid a fond farewell to original fourth member Jennifer Austin, who’s moved on to other projects, Fara recruited Matheson via the fabled folk scene in Glasgow, their shared adoptive hometown. The release of Times From Times Fall, together with ever-bigger gigs, further extended Fara’s string of industry accolades, with nominations for Live Act of the Year and the £25,000 Belhaven Bursary, for innovation in Scottish music, at 2019’s Scots Trad Music Awards. A third Fara album is now in the pipeline, as their newest fourth brain brings an influx of fresh ideas, energy and influences, together with a deep-seated empathy for the band’s beginnings.

Rachel Walker is a singer, songwriter, arranger and educator based in the heart of Lochaber in Scotland’s beautiful West Highlands. At home with both Gaelic and English, she encountered the Gaelic tradition at a young age, after her family moved from Lincolnshire in England to the small village of Kinlochewe in Wester Ross. Collaboration has been at the heart of Rachel’s musical journey, as a member of Scottish-Irish quartet Cruinn and West Coast super-group Skipinnish. She has also worked with the Tiree-born poet Flora MacPhàil, with whom she co-penned the beautiful ballad ‘An Smeòrach’ (’The Mavis’). Rachel’s collaborative work continues into 2021, with the release of new album ‘Gaol’ (‘Love’), the first from her own Ròs Dearg Records.

Assynt are former BBC Radio Scotland Young Musician of the Year finalists, Graham Mackenzie (fiddle) and David Shedden (pipes/whistles) alongside BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winner Innes White (guitar/mandolin).Having performed together for many years, 2018 saw the official launch of the band and their debut album ‘Road to the North’.Described by Folk Radio as “refreshingly contemporary”, their new release "marks them as one of our most impressive young bands.” The band won best ‘Up and Coming Artist of the Year’ at the Scots Trad Music Awards 2018 after their debut album was released. Assynt will be releasing their second album in 2021.

Growing up in Easter Ross, Chloë Bryce developed her grasp of Traditional Music through her involvement in the the Fèis movement. She went on to study fiddle and Gaelic song, and recently graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with First Class Honours in Traditional Music. Her music is informed with a deep regard for the old tunes and songs embedded in Highland culture. She has gained repute as a composer and a number of her tunes have come into circulation in the Glasgow session scene.

Originally from Keith in the North-East of Scotland, Amy Papiransky has been gathering and writing songs over the last eight years and released her debut album Read Me Write in September last year. Amy wrote her latest single Dear Amy after hearing Tom Grennan’s poem on Radio 1, based on a letter he wrote to his younger self. “A bit of Dolly and a bit of Carole King with the piano, and a real tie in with good country writing over her stunning Scottish accent – I am loving Amy’s unique vibe and excited for what is to come!” (KT Tunstall)
