Six private gardens in Fenwick will throw open their doors for the public to explore on the 24th & 25th July as part of Scotland’s Gardens Scheme 2021!
About Scotland’s Gardens Scheme Open Garden: Gardens of Fenwick
10 Raith Road
Fenwick KA3 6DQ (Mrs Sandra Macpherson): Front garden landscaped with gravel and shrubs and east-facing back garden with terraces, grass and beds with perennials and shrubs; masses of pots and containers. Terrace at the top provides tranquil seating and quirky ornaments lurk in the shrubbery. A new wildlife pond, lined with marginal planting.
2 Fulton's Crescent (NEW)
Fenwick KA3 6GJ (Janek Sawczyn & Marko Surakka): A cottage garden with peonies, delphiniums, foxgloves and lavender. Walled courtyard for entertaining with paved dining area, summerhouse and terraced seating. Clematis, wisteria, Virginia creeper, hawthorn, bamboo, box and acer offer privacy and structure. Foliage planting includes grasses, hostas, teasels and rodgersia.
20 Raith Road (NEW)
Fenwick KA3 6DB (Mr and Mrs Paul Fox): Developed over 25 years, copper beech hedge frames garden with hanging baskets and annuals at front, small lawns and lavender hedge leads to an orchard and raised vegetable beds. Gate to rear with lawn bordered by variety of shrubs and roses. Conservatory with patio enclosed by rhododendrons, azalea, clematis and honeysuckle, and summer plantings.
25 Kirkton Road (NEW)
Fenwick, Ayrshire KA3 6DJ (Mr and Mrs Paul Whitton): Hilly garden with mature hedges, trees, fruit, vegetables and compost area. Side borders are filled with heathers, perennials, succulents, shrubs, climbers and roses. Masses of pots, greenhouse and a path lined with dahlias and summer bedding leads to sloping lawn with well-planted borders.
5 Fowld's View (NEW)
Fenwick KA3 6GF (Linda Creanor): This garden, established in 2016, complements a modern house. Based on a circular design with lawn and patio, it has mixed planting in surrounding borders with small trees, shrubs and varied herbaceous perennials. A north east aspect presents challenges with shady areas, where hebes, hostas and acers provide colour and interest.
9a Maunsheugh Road (NEW)
Fenwick KA3 6AN (John Logan): Immaculate south-facing lawn edged with flamboyant begonias and a mass of containers. To the rear are patio areas, raised beds with begonias, dahlias, annuals, heathers and shrubs, summer house, vegetable beds and greenhouse. A lawn runs to a seating area set off by roses.
Directions: From N: Take J7 off M77 Fenwick, turn left into village, right at roundabout and Kirkton Road is on left. From S: Take slip road off A77 Kilmarnock/Fenwick turn right for Fenwick (B7038) after two roundabouts enter village on to Main Road. Signs will lead to gardens.
