All of the paintings in this exhibition were produced during the twelve month period between June 2020 and June 2021, when Scotland was still under lockdown because of the Covid pandemic. During this time Alison was grieving over the premature death of her older brother Alan and suffering from an agonising and incapacitating spinal injury involving two herniated discs and a substantial tear to one. Yet, extraordinarily, there is no trace of self-pity or pessimism in any of these works, and there was certainly no diminution in the quantity or the quality of her output during this most difficult of years.
Alison has consolidated her position as arguably the most gifted artist among the younger generation of New Scottish Colourists, producing works of irresistible allure. Enjoying significant and well-deserved renown at home and abroad for her highly original still life paintings; her range of diverse landscape motifs; her bold, compelling abstracts and most recently, her ground-breaking series of reclining nudes.
We are extremely fortunate as a gallery to be working with Alison on this scale and hosting her only Solo Exhibition of 2021. We would therefore strongly encourage you to visit the gallery and enjoy this collection of work in person and see Alison’s mastery of colour, texture, the emotions and energy captured in each work and above all, immerse yourself in a gallery full of paintings of of colour, energy, vibrancy and passion.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
