Written by Ken Alexander and Fraser Boyle featuring a fantastic cast of Kirsty Findlay, Ali Cleland, Kirsty Malone, Andrew Keay, Gavin Jon Wright, Chris Forbes, Sally Swanson and Kristopher Bosch.
Suitable for all ages and set in Auld Ayrshire, Jamie And The Unicorn is directed by Ken Alexander who has an established reputation as one of the best panto directors working within the UK and is written by both Ken Alexander and Fraser Boyle, the team who brought to you the fantastic Jack and The Beanstalk.
In the village o’ Doonfoot, way back in Auld Ayrshire times, Jamie lives with her Mammy, Dame Jinty McGuffie, and her daft brother Duncan. The ‘hale o’ Doonfoot is celebrating the reported sighting of a Unicorn, spotted in the Alloway Forest, a good omen for the prosperity of the ‘faimlie pig ferm’! But all seems lost when thon Wicked Spell Weaver, Gowdie Banadook, threatens Ayrshire with an everlasting winter – the baby piglets will not survive the cauld, the crops will not grow and Jamie’s family farm will fail. The Arran Fairy knows what to do – she sends Jamie and her family deep into the heart of the forest, on a quest to find the only creature that can break Gowdie’s curse… the legendary Unicorn!
New music has been written especially for the show by David Higham (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), with choreography by Chris Stuart-Wilson (National Theatre of Scotland/Perth Theatre/Dundee Rep), lighting design by Wayne Dowdeswell (Royal Shakespeare Company), and the show also boasts a wonderful set designed and built specially for The Gaiety stage by Nigel Hook (winner of 2017 Tony Award for best Set Design for The Play That Goes Wrong at The Duchess Theatre in London’s West End) and Costume Designer, Alisa Kalynova. With fantastic costumes and special effects, Jamie And The Unicorn is sure to be a legend of a panto!
The Gaiety have designed our 2021 pantomime to be as Covid safe as possible to ensure that the show will go on! Customers can opt to attend a 50% capped audience performance at this hour long show with no interval and be reassured that all measures including advanced fresh air ventilation, hand sanitising and cleaning are in place. It is a legal requirement in Scotland for face masks to be worn. To assist flow of traffic queue management procedures will be in operation as well as a new contactless ticket service.
The Gaiety have been granted the use of Society Of London Theatre and UK Theatre’s ‘See It Safely’ mark, administered in Scotland by Federation of Scottish Theatre. The mark certifies that we are complying with the latest Scottish Government and industry COVID-19 guidelines, to ensure the safety of our staff and audiences.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
