DIY, non-profit arts festival ‘Glasgow Open House Arts Festival’ (GOHAF) returns after a 4-year break in programming with a 4-day, socially distanced festival themed ‘Artists in Isolation’, from the 24th to the 27th of September. Artists, arts organisations and creative members of the public from all backgrounds have been encouraged to reflect on their experience of the pandemic, using alternative, domestic and public spaces to share art and ideas.
The small artist-run organisation has gathered an ambitious and eclectic programme of arts events and ‘happenings’ taking place across the whole city. The festival will showcase the work of 125+ artists, with 60+ projects happening online and across 40+ outdoor locations. Artists will welcome friends, neighbours and strangers alike into their front and back gardens, community gardens and other outdoor spaces to offer their hospitality and to share their art, music, performances and stories.
Outdoor venues include front and back domestic gardens, community gardens, window displays, a carpark, an oil-rig lifeboat, a set of steps, a cash machine, a washing line and many more unexpected locations. By 'removing' art from conventional spaces, such as galleries and museums, and placing it in surprising or familiar local spaces, the festival hopes to bring together and support the community to engage with the arts both as artists and audiences, in a way that feels accessible, engaging and exciting!
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
