The 2018 winner of BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year contest, singer and songwriter Hannah Rarity previews material from her eagerly-anticipated second album, also reprising favourites from her 2018 debut Neath the Gloaming Star. Combining sublime vocal timbre and uncanny interpretative empathy, which have earned comparisons to Cara Dillon and Eva Cassidy, Rarity has toured internationally with US supergroup Cherish the Ladies as well as appearing with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Blazin’ Fiddles, alongside her solo work. In a crowded field, she ranks as one of Scotland’s finest young singers, performing a carefully chosen mix of traditional, contemporary and self-penned material.
A trio of top Irish instrumentalists and singer-songwriters with strong transatlantic allegiances, The Alt - John Doyle, Nuala Kennedy and Eamon O’Leary - combine flute, whistle, guitars, bouzoukis and three lead vocals in magically harmonious renderings of favourite songs and tunes. They’re joined here by a veritable giant of Irish tradition, fiddler Kevin Burke.
