Drawing inspiration from iconic soul singers like Marvin Gaye and Bill Withers, Jordan Mackampa began writing his own music as a young teen and released his debut album Foreigner in 2020.
Equal parts rich and wry, Mackampa’s velvet baritone snakes gracefully throughout the album’s 11 tracks, chronicling his experience feeling like an outsider looking in. A keen callback to the 70s soul that Mackampa grew up on, Foreigner is a powerful statement of self-possession, laced artfully with elements of hip-hop, funk, socially conscious storytelling and sharp-tongued pop hooks.
