Eco-printing is an exciting introduction to the alchemy of dyeing with plants, and wonderful way of creating lasting prints with natural materials. In this workshop you will gain an understanding of how to use different types of leaves and natural fibres to create a variety of beautiful prints.
The class will begin with a brief introduction to the some of the history and alchemy of natural dye processes. You will then make two silk eco prints using a bundle dye method where leaves are pressed onto cloth and then steamed to create the print. The first of these prints will be a simple leaf print, and the second will use a colour background to add more vibrant and contrasting colours to the print. Towards the end of the class we will experiment with creating some simple prints on paper using a similar method.
All materials are included and you will leave with two printed pieces of silk approximately 50cm x 50cm and 5 printed A6 cards with envelopes.
