Participatory Arts Short Course: Intensive Weekend Training

About Participatory Arts Short Course: Intensive Weekend Training

This weekend course has been designed by Glasgow Connected Arts Network to give creatives, who might be looking to diversify their professional practice or wish to work in a more purpose led way, the opportunity to learn about community-based practice. You will explore Participatory Arts theory and gain a broad range of practical tools and techniques that you can use in future community projects/ commissions.

What will you learn?
There is a thriving Participatory Arts/ Socially Engaged practice community here in Scotland. This short course will help you to plan and adapt your project delivery, apply for funding which supports participatory activity, learn effective monitoring and evaluation methodologies and create genuine partnerships within a community context. It will also give creatives the opportunity and time to connect with others who are interested in developing a Participatory Arts/ Socially Engaged practice and grow your professional network.

What can I expect?
The weekend course will be divided into practical activities, presentations and Q&As. Participants will be provided with a course pack which outlines the course content and can be a useful guide to reference. Participants will find out more about the history behind the Participatory Arts scene in Scotland and about who the types of key agencies/ organisations are, to connect with in future. Both facilitators have a plethora of experience and learned skills from working in communities and are there to support you in your learning. Whether you are part of the Glasgow Connected Arts Network or new to us, you can connect with the network following the course and meet like minded peers, hear about current opportunities and events - it is currently free to sign up to the network here > www.glasgowcan.org/members/sign-up/

Who will be there?
You will be joined by Glasgow Connected Arts Network team members and other creatives working in the cultural and creative industries - fellow learners who will be from a broad range of creative backgrounds with varying levels of experience of the Participatory Arts/ Socially Engaged practice. We are delighted to be collaborating with Hannah Justad who studied Community Arts and has since worked in communities across Scotland and beyond, connecting with groups and individuals who face barriers to creative activity. Her practice focuses on sustainability and inclusiveness, making the arts accessible to all and it is our role as practitioners to ensure that projects are delivered in such a way that under-represented groups are able to participate and feel welcomed and heard.

This course has been designed by Glasgow Connected Arts Network in collaboration with Participatory Arts Educators Hannah Justad and Colin White.
