E. A. Hornel first travelled to Japan in 1893-4. This talk will be an exploration of the artist’s written account of Japan and its place in the 19th century’s effervescent culture of travel and enthusiasm for authored records of experiences and impressions.
Speaker: Marianne Fossaluzza is a PhD candidate in Visual Culture at the School of Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture, King’s College, University of Aberdeen. Her work focuses on gender, otherness and working practices in the photographic collection of E. A. Hornel.

Please access Pollok Country Park via the Dumbreck Road entrance to Pollok Park (next to M77 and Haggs Castle Golf Club). All visitors to Pollok House should park in the Riverside car park which is situated on the right hand side as you approach the house. On arrival, please report to the welcome desk in the front entrance hall where you will be given a free parking ticket to display for the duration of your visit to the house. If you have any difficulty locating/accessing the house on the day, please call us on 0141 616 6410.
