‘Art is the Flower - Life is the Green Leaf. Let every artist strive to make his flower a beautiful living thing, something that will convince the world that there may be, there are, things more precious, more beautiful, than life itself…’ - Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Lecture - Seemliness, 1902
The study and celebration of the natural world is at the very heart of The Glasgow Style, Britain’s uniquely bold, stylised, contribution to Art Nouveau. This talk will look at the work of Mackintosh, the Macdonald Sisters, Jessie M King, Talwin Morris, Wylie & Lochhead and their many talented contemporaries.
Part of Art and Nature, Art History Festival, 15-21 September 2025.
