Glasgow Caledonian University will once again host the Global Game Jam in January 2026, welcoming students, creatives, developers and members of the public to come together for a weekend of collaboration, creativity and game-making.
GCU has been part of the Global Game Jam since 2009, and 2026 marks the 17th time the University has hosted an official GGJ venue. The event will run from 5:30pm on Friday, January 30 until 5:30pm on Sunday, February 1, with an additional 1.5 hours available for playing the games. The jam will take place in the Students’ Association building.
The Global Game Jam is open to anyone aged 18 or over and is not limited to GCU students. First-time jammers and experienced participants alike are encouraged to take part. Attendees can come along individually, with friends, or as an existing team, and those without a team will be supported in finding one if they wish. Participants may also choose to work independently. The event is known for its welcoming and supportive atmosphere, bringing together GCU students, students from other institutions, industry guests and members of the wider public, all sharing ideas and helping one another to create games over the weekend.
There will be game tournaments and quizzes running alongside the main event, offering plenty of opportunities to play, socialise and take a break from development. Participants are recommended to bring their own equipment, including a laptop with any required software installed and a power extension cable if available.
Those interested in taking part can find out more and register via the Global Game Jam website.
