Curated by Simple Things Fermentations and Dookit Brewing, Februa is all about giving Winter beers their moment — darker, malt-forward ales alongside clean, well-made lagers — and creating something that can grow into a regular fixture in the Scottish beer calendar.
“The idea for the festival came about from noticing the many great lager beers and seasonal specials being released by independent breweries around the end of January,” says Harry from Dookit Brewing. “So let’s come together, enjoy the excellent results at their freshest and wave goodbye to the coldest and darkest season!”
The first Februa weekend will coincide with the release of the first collaborative brew from the two breweries, Double Dark Mild (6.2%), along with a Best Bitter from Dookit and a Bohemian Pilsner from Simple Things.
Beer fans can freely take part in the festival trail: enjoy the Februa beers, collect stamps, and send off a completed card to receive a limited-edition Februa T-shirt celebrating year one of the festival.
The participating venues are Clockwork Bar & Restaurant, Koelschip Yard and The Old Toll Bar.
This year’s launch keeps things small and local with a plan to evolve Februa year by year; a larger festival event is the next step, bringing some of the finest Winter Ales and Proper Lagers from far and wide to Glasgow. As with all good things in beer, it starts with a small and gentle pour.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
