Taking place on Wednesday 11 March 2026 at Berlinky’s on Sauchiehall Street, the evening invites readers from across Scotland to spend a few joyful hours in very good bookish company.
The Bookface Sip & Swap mixes a live, relaxed conversation with Jennie, a big sustainable book swap and plenty of time to chat, browse and swap recommendations with other readers. It is designed to feel friendly, informal and sociable, whether guests arrive solo or with friends. Every ticket includes a copy of Jennie’s new novel The Barbecue at No. 9, a glass of fizz or soft drink on arrival, and access to the Q&A, book swap and social evening, making it both a literary night out and a treat to take home.
Jennie Godfrey’s debut novel, The List of Suspicious Things, became a Sunday Times No.1 bestseller and won readers for its warm, vivid voice and emotional depth. Set in 1970s West Yorkshire, it explores childhood, fear and community at a time when the Yorkshire Ripper murders cast a long shadow over everyday life. Jennie grew up in a mill-working family in West Yorkshire and developed her love of books early. After a 25-year corporate career, she left in 2020 to write full-time and now combines writing with bookselling and creative research, including a PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Bristol.
Bookface was founded in 2020 by reader and broadcaster Heather Suttie and has grown into a 15,000-strong community, hosting more than 70 sold-out events across Scotland. Previous Bookface guests include Val McDermid, Lisa Jewell, Alice Feeney, Adele Parks, Claire Douglas, Shari Lapena, John Niven, Chris Brookmyre, Helen Fields and Heather Morris.
Guests are welcome to bring up to four books to swap from a pool of more than 300 titles, or simply come along for the conversation, atmosphere and author chat. There is no pressure to swap, and Kindle and audiobook readers are always welcome.
