McAllister, author of nine standalone novels, is the powerhouse behind the global sensation Wrong Place Wrong Time — a Waterstones Thriller of the Month and shortlisted for both the British Book Awards Crime & Thriller Book of the Year and the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year. Her work has also been selected by the BBC Radio 2 Book Club, Reese's Book Club and Richard & Judy Book Club, earning her an international readership and a reputation for high-concept thrillers with real emotional punch.
At this intimate live event, McAllister will discuss her latest novel, her plotting process, and how she builds the kind of twists that spark fierce book club debates long after the final page. The conversation will be followed by a live audience Q&A, giving readers direct access to one of the most talked-about crime writers working today.
Bookface Sip & Swaps are known for their relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Guests will enjoy coffee or tea on arrival, a croissant, and a glass of fizz or soft drink while soaking up the conversation. Attendees can bring up to four pre-loved books to take part in the sustainable book swap, with more than 300 titles available to browse and exchange. It’s a morning designed for connection — great books, great chat and the chance to leave with a fresh stack to read.
Founded in 2020 by publicist and broadcaster Heather Suttie, Bookface has grown into a 15,000-strong online reading community and live events platform, hosting more than 75 sold-out events across Scotland. Previous guests have included Alice Feeney, Adele Parks, John Niven, Val McDermid, Lisa Jewell, Chris Brookmyre and Helen Fields, reinforcing its reputation as one of Scotland’s most vibrant literary communities.
Whether you’re a long-time Gillian McAllister reader or simply love a thriller that keeps you guessing, this promises to be a lively, intelligent and thoroughly bookish morning.
