It shows a selection of work from The Morag McAlpine Bequest – a significant gift by the artist in 2015 following the death of his wife Morag McAlpine. The bequest contains works that he made as gifts to his wife on anniversaries, birthdays and Christmas of framed drawings for book dust jackets or covers – both for his publications and Agnes Owens (a writer he knew and admired). It also includes portraits of autobiographical relevance with friends and family who he drew for his characters.
