Helen will kick off the event with a story that is rarely told - that of our ocean. Not the fish or the dolphins, but the massive ocean engine itself: what it does, why it works, and the many ways it has influenced animals, weather and human history & culture.
Following her talk, Helen will be joined by other ocean scientists for a lively, interactive debate with a difference. Our team will set off on a research trip, but there is a problem: their ship is sinking! The scientist's job is to convince you why their research equipment should stay on board, and you decide what stays and goes! Can the team do the research you support without the ship sinking?
The afternoon will close with a screening of Ocean Odyssey in IMAX 3D. Follow a three-month-old baby whale on a magical journey down one of the Earth’s great ocean highways to discover the incredible world of ocean currents - hidden marine rivers that carry heat, nutrients and oxygen around the Earth.
In addition, Helen will be signing copies of her book at the event. In the checkout below, you can pre-order the book for collection at the event. It will also be available to purchase from Glasgow Science Centre's gift shop, after the event.
Entry to Glasgow Science Centre, which for this day only includes the 'Eyes on the Ocean' Meet The Expert hands-on experiences, can be booked separately here.
