Virginia Evans, author of The Correspondent, will be at Glaschu Restaurant & Bar on Sunday 8 March at 9:30 am.
Heather Suttie, the founder of Bookace, the 15,000 online and in person community of avid readers said, “We'll be in conversation with Virginia about her unforgettable and sharp-edged protagonist, the subtle Scottish thread woven through the novel, and the remarkable rise of her debut".
Evans is the author of The Correspondent, a critically acclaimed first novel that became one of the standout literary successes of 2025. Told entirely through letters, the book introduces Sybil Van Antwerp, a retired lawyer who uses correspondence to make sense of life, love, loss and connection.
Originally published with modest expectations, The Correspondent built extraordinary momentum through word of mouth and praise from established authors. It has since been reprinted multiple times, featured on major literary lists, and sold widely across the United States and internationally — an impressive achievement for a debut novel in today’s publishing climate.
At Bookface Sip & Swap with Virginia Evans, attendees will hear about her inspiration and writing process, discuss the themes of the novel and its Scottish connection, swap favourite books in a relaxed setting, and connect with fellow readers over drinks and thoughtful conversation whilst enjoying coffee, croissants and a glass of fizz.
This event forms part of Bookface’s ongoing mission to bring readers together in informal and inspiring spaces. All are welcome, from devoted fans of contemporary fiction to those simply looking to discover something new and meet like minded individuals of all ages — with one thing in common, a love of reading brilliant books.
